Many of us find ourselves with a strong desire to continue our education through graduate school, apprenticeships, trainings and/or certifications. For many of us the mere thought of juggling a full-time job, financial burden that comes with education and still finding time to have a life, we often put our professional development on the backburner.

Professional development comes in all different shapes and sizes depending on what we’re interested in. Regardless of what professional development formats look like for you, it continues to add fuel to our creativity, increases drive and develops new interests in our own career pathways. We’re sure you’ve thought about it, but maybe you haven’t figured out how to balance adding another component of professional development to your already hectic life – as young professionals active in our community, we’ve all been there!
During this panel you will hear from individuals who have chosen several different paths of professional development who will share the art of balance, financial hurdles, and how they found the right option for continued learning for them.

Format: Workshop
Track: Imposter Syndrome
Location: Fox Room, Rutland Free Library

Lindsey Lathrop, Certified Coach, Lindsey Lathrop Coaching

It's easy to leave money on the table. Why? For most of us, even the thought of negotiating for a better pay and circumstances makes us nervous. We tell ourselves “I’d be greedy to ask.” or “They won’t like me.” We may not know where to start or what words to use. So we take what is offered.

Here’s the thing: asking for more money, benefits, and a better work situation is a skill you CAN learn and start practicing now. Hey, you may even be doing this without realizing it! Lindsey asked for her first raise at age 16. The magic: belief that she deserved more and did something about it.

This workshop is designed to teach you how. We'll get you to a place where you're feeling confident and ready to avoid the traps that many of us fall into. If negotiating makes you nervous - this workshop is especially for you!

our broken relationship with success: addressing the issues behind imposter syndrome
Format: Interactive Presentation
Track: Imposter Syndrome
Location: Classroom, Community College of Vermont

Michelle Krasny, Career Coach, Michelle Krasny Coaching

Even if we haven’t heard of “impostor syndrome” or “impostor phenomenon” most of us know it when we see it. We’ve been given grades, accolades and awards, and not been able to take a moment and feel proud of our accomplishment. We’ve downplayed our achievements, pointing to others who have done more. We’ve bravely stepped up or raised our hands, only to be terrified that someone would accuse us of not knowing what we were talking about.

A little over a year ago I became fascinated by Impostor Phenomenon, and started to see it everywhere… but as it popped up, I also noticed that everyone I spoke to who had a strong experience of these feelings also had a some very specific relationships with success - this blew my mind and began a deep exploration of our generation’s relationship with success. I’m currently working on a book about what I discovered, and I’d love to share my preliminary research in a conversation with all of you.

The component I geek out about the most, are the questions and exercises I’ve brought into my practice as a result of this research… because I’ve found that when my clients and I work on their relationships with success, feelings of impostorism melt away. (In addition discussing my findings, I’ll also share some of these questions and exercises with you, so you can begin to create your own intentional relationship with success.)

Impostor Phenomenon is the symptom, our broken relationship with success is the cause.

The hardest conversations
Format: Workshop
Track: Leadership
Location: Fox Room, Rutland Free Library

Ryan Mauter, Manager of Talent Development, Vail Resorts

At work and in life, the conversations we have come from three directions. There's what comes at us, what we initiate with others, and the conversations we have with ourselves. What makes some harder than others has everything to do with the emotions involved, and little to do with the facts or logic.

In this session you'll learn about how the neuroscience of human behavior can be used to help navigate your hardest conversations. You'll have the chance to reflect on your own personal experiences and apply concepts and tools to them, so you can apply a real life scenario to learn from.

Whether you need to drum up courage to address a problem or find a way to digest something difficult that's come your way, you'll leave better equipped for whatever's coming next.
